Anthony Elanga, a Manchester United teenager, claims that the vulnerability in Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak's style helped him make up his mind when he scored in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 encounter, a 1-1 draw.
With his first touch, Elanga, 19, grabbed onto Bruno Fernandes' perfectly-weighted pass and slotted the ball past Oblak.
The Swede's goal was made much simpler by the Slovenian goalkeeper, who allowed Elanga too much space to score.
It's a frequent Oblak feature, according to the adolescent. 'It was my first chance of the game, and I always do my homework,' says the player. After the 1-1 tie, Elanga commented.
'When I'm competing with other teams.' I was watching and really enjoying that aspect of him, and then he comes out and makes a huge space for me.' I still have to remain composed, peaceful, and relaxed in such situation. I was able to fit it into the space, and those were the good old days.'
United has the upper hand in the second leg due to the fact that it will be played at Old Trafford, and the competition no longer has an away goals rule.
Following the match at the Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday night, Elanga showered admiration on interim manager Ralph Rangnick. 'I told you how calm and collected I am, and whenever the time arises, I will use it.' 'Every time I get onto the pitch, I want to repay the boss by giving 150 percent,' the striker told BT Sport.
'I just do my best, I want to be the best player on the field, and I respect the coach.'
When I had the chance, he [Ralf Rangnick] told me to scare the defenders and go in behind them.
'I've always dreamed of having moments like this, scoring in the Champions League against top European teams like Atletico Madrid,' the youngster continued.
